A new megnut design

thumbnail of new megnut design, click to see larger versionBehold a nearly-complete new megnut design! Finally. I can't say that I'm super happy with it, but I needed to give up on perfection and satisfaction and hunker down to get something done. The other sections aren't really fleshed out yet, I'll be adding content as I have the time. Cooking does have one recipe though, and for those ladies that attended a certain "ladies brunch" last weekend, you'll recognize this crisp.

Hopefully this design will work for everyone (or nearly so). I haven't seen it on a Mac, so feedback is welcomed. It will not look very good on anything below Netscape 6.1 on Windows. It's all CSS these days. Anyway, I'm sure something's broken, messed-up, or misspelled. Email me if you're inclined and I'll do my best to fix it up. Now to eat some dinner!

Post-dinner update: I've added an image so you can see what it's supposed to look like. If you're seeing something different than the pop-up (click on screenshot above, warning large pop-up 703×655), please let me know. Thanks!

Maybe small dogs aren’t so bad

I think Heather started something with those small dogs of hers. I've never been much of a dog person, especially not a small dog person. I always pictured myself (if I ever pictured myself) with something that could go running with me, something big and sturdy. But meeting Heather's pups started to change that. And now, seeing pictures of Dos Pesos, I think I might be hooked on little dogs! They just look so cute! Of course, my 20+ lbs cat might think so too, as in "so cute I'm going to eat you for an afternoon snack." For the time-being, I think we'll remain a one-pet household.

Some things to tell you about

Here are some things I could tell you about if I felt like it: Amores Perros was an interesting movie; SwissAir went kaputt (then revived, sort of) and I had to buy a new plane ticket to go to Germany next week; I learned, by watching the Food Network, that I'm not using enough flour when I make pasta from scratch and that I need to spend more time kneading the dough, up to ten minutes of kneading is required to get perfect pasta; two homeless men turned the entry way of my building into a bar this morning and hung out drinking and talking and smoking; I've driven across the Golden Gate Bridge four times since September 11 and everytime I reach the other side I'm relieved the terrorists didn't blow it up while I was on it.

Date mistakes

Did anyone notice that I thought yesterday was Tuesday? My date stamp below (since changed) said "tuesday, october 03". I really am out of it, and so are you for not catching it. Usually megnut readers are quick to correct me about these types of things. (Wait a second, did I write it on Tuesday? Did I get the date wrong? I can't remember now.)

Fall already?

October? Already? But the leaves are still green! It never feels like fall here in San Francisco because the leaves don't change, and the weather finally gets good in October. Just last Sunday I got a tan on my back sitting in the sun in the park at a picnic. It was lovely.

Why do I feel a compulsion to mention I don't have much to say these days when it's obvious to anyone who reads this site? I do not know. But I feel I must tell you I don't have much to say these days. I'm doing a lot of thinking but not a lot of writing, at least, not yet.

That is all.
